3D Instruments Direct Drive Pressure Gauges and Test Gauges

3D Instruments, a California gauge maker, built its pressure gauges around its Direct Drive design. In place of the old C-shaped Bourdon tube, a helically wound Inconel X-750 Bourdon tube couples directly to the pointer shaft, the only moving part. The result is a gauge that responds instantly while resisting pointer pulsation.

3D Instruments built its Direct Drive line as both test gauges and process gauges, each with its own accuracy classes and ordering table. Plants and calibration benches keep Direct Drive gauges in service for years, and a replacement is matched by its part number.

Direct Drive part numbers start with 25 and read position by position: gauge type, accuracy class, dial size, a two-digit range code, then fitting, case style and case color. In a code such as 25504-23B74, the catalog's own example, the 5 after the 25 marks a pressure gauge, the 0 the process-gauge accuracy class and the 4 a 4.5 inch dial, and B is a 1/4 inch NPT male fitting. Test gauges carry a 4 or a 5 in the accuracy position. Read the number off the gauge and it describes itself.
