Bird RF Wattmeters, Power Sensors and RF Test Equipment

J. Raymond Bird founded the company in 1942 as Bird Engineering Company, a job shop in Cleveland, Ohio. Its Thruline power measurement patent was granted in 1959. The company, now Bird Technologies, is headquartered in Solon, Ohio.

Bird makes RF test and measurement equipment: RF power sensors and meters, wattmeters, network and spectrum analyzers, antenna and cable testers, attenuators, and RF terminations and loads. In a Thruline wattmeter the RF power passes through the meter's line section, and a plug-in element sets the frequency band and power range, so the element is chosen to match the system being measured.

A directional reading of forward and reflected power is how a technician spots a bad antenna or a tired connector before the radio does.
