Cole-Parmer Lab Equipment, Instruments and Fluid Handling Products
Cole-Parmer was founded in 1955 by Jerry Cole and John Parmer, in a loft on West Illinois Street in downtown Chicago. In the 1960s the company acquired Masterflex peristaltic pumps, followed by Gilmont Instruments and Manostat Pumps. In 2014 Thermo Fisher Scientific agreed to sell Cole-Parmer to the private equity firm GTCR. The company is headquartered in Vernon Hills, Illinois.
Cole-Parmer sells laboratory instruments, equipment and supplies along with fluid handling products. Its lab range takes in circulation baths, pipettes and pipettors, burettes, calorimeters and centrifuges, and it offers calibration and instrument repair through InnoCal. Masterflex peristaltic pumps were part of the Cole-Parmer company from the 1960s until 2021, when Avantor acquired Masterflex. In a peristaltic pump the tubing is the part that wears, and replacement tubing is matched to the pump head.
