Crouse-Hinds

Crouse-Hinds Condulet Conduit Bodies, Conduit Fittings and Hazardous Location Equipment

Crouse-Hinds opened in Syracuse, New York, on January 18, 1897, founded by Huntington Beard Crouse and Jesse L. Hinds. Its first product was a patented trolley car headlight. Condulet fittings for industrial wiring became its core line after a 1900 move to a larger plant, and from the early 1920s it also built traffic signals. Cooper Industries bought Crouse-Hinds in 1981, and Eaton completed its acquisition of Cooper in 2012. The line is now sold as Eaton's Crouse-Hinds series.

Crouse-Hinds has made industrial and explosionproof electrical equipment: Condulet conduit outlet bodies and other electrical fittings, enclosures, control stations, junction boxes, switches and motor starters, along with industrial, aviation ground and obstruction lighting. Conduit bodies stay in service as long as the conduit runs they belong to, so replacements are matched by body shape and trade size.

Condulet catalog numbers name the body shape in their letters. In Eaton's catalog, a number such as LB37 is a 1 inch Form 7 LB body in Feraloy iron alloy.
