Siemens SIMATIC PLCs, Industrial Drives and Building Automation Controls

Siemens was founded on October 1, 1847, in Berlin as Telegraphen-Bauanstalt von Siemens & Halske, by Werner von Siemens and Johann Georg Halske. Its corporate headquarters is in Munich. In October 1991 Siemens acquired the Industrial Systems Division of Texas Instruments, based in Johnson City, Tennessee, and organized it as Siemens Industrial Automation.

Siemens industrial automation covers the SIMATIC programmable logic controllers and automation systems, along with numerical controls, drives and inverters. The SIMATIC S5 series launched in 1979 and the S7 series in 1994. On the building side, Siemens makes building automation systems and HVAC controls. Plants often keep earlier SIMATIC systems and drives running for years after newer generations arrive, so modules for older platforms stay in demand.
