Welch Allyn Vital Signs Monitors and Diagnostic Instruments
Welch Allyn was founded in 1915 in Auburn, New York, by Dr. Francis Welch and William Noah Allyn, who formed a partnership after developing the first hand-held, direct-illuminating ophthalmoscope. The company was family-owned until Hillrom acquired it in 2015, and Baxter International bought Hillrom in 2021.
Welch Allyn makes medical devices and patient monitoring systems, with product lines in vital signs monitoring, diagnostic cardiology, vision screening, and physical exam and diagnostic instruments. Its 300 Series vital signs monitors are built around non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP), with options for pulse oximetry, temperature and a printer.
The 300 Series ordering code reads left to right after the 53: the third character is the pulse oximetry module (0 for none, S for Masimo, N for Nellcor), the fourth is temperature (0 or T) and the fifth is a printer (0 or P). By that code, a model such as 53N0P has NIBP, Nellcor pulse oximetry and a printer, without temperature.
