PerkinElmer Atomic Spectroscopy, ICP-OES, Chromatography and Thermal Analysis Instruments
PerkinElmer began on April 19, 1937, as a partnership between Richard Perkin and Charles Elmer, who worked first from a small office in Manhattan and then opened a production facility in Jersey City. In 2022 the company split: its applied, food and enterprise services businesses were sold to a private equity firm and kept the PerkinElmer name, while the life sciences and diagnostics business took the name Revvity in 2023.
PerkinElmer has built analytical instruments from infrared, visible and UV spectrometers to gas chromatographs and atomic absorption and Raman spectrometers. Its current lines span atomic spectroscopy, chromatography, mass spectrometry, molecular spectroscopy and thermal analysis, with consumables, software and instrument support. Labs keep spectroscopy and chromatography systems running for years, so accessories and parts for earlier models stay in demand.
ICP-OES measures trace elements by the light they give off in an argon plasma. In PerkinElmer's Optima model names, DV stands for dual view, meaning the plasma can be viewed both axially and radially.
