Product Overview
National Instruments SCXI-1162 (part no. 182246E-01) is a 32-channel optically isolated digital input module for the NI SCXI signal conditioning platform. Thirty-two channels are organized into eight banks of four lines each, with each bank carrying 300 Vrms Category II working isolation and 2,300 Vrms transient overvoltage protection. Accepts TTL and CMOS logic levels and reference voltages from +5 V to +10 V. Operates in serial multiplexed mode over the SCXIbus or in high-speed parallel mode when connected directly to a companion digital I/O accessory. Compatible with NI-DAQmx driver software and application environments including LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio.

Applications
- Monitoring the open/closed state of relays, proximity switches, pushbutton switches, and thermostats in an industrial process line without exposing the host PC to common-mode voltages or ground loops
- Acquiring TTL and CMOS logic signals from custom experimental circuits in an R&D lab - connecting field digital inputs through an SCXI-1326 or TBX-1326 terminal block into an existing SCXI chassis during active test campaigns
- Expanding digital input channel count on a production test bench where a high-density isolated front end is needed to read the status of multiple power circuits simultaneously
- Replacing a failed SCXI-1162 module in an installed SCXI system at a power generation, petrochemical, or manufacturing facility where the chassis and DAQ board are already in service
Frequently Asked Questions
What chassis and DAQ board does this module require?
The SCXI-1162 requires an NI SCXI chassis and a compatible NI DAQ board. Confirmed compatible DAQ boards include the MIO-16, AT-MIO-64F-5, Lab-NB, Lab-PC, Lab-PC+, Lab-LC, PC-LPM-16, DIO-24, DIO-32F, and DIO-96. It is not a standalone device and will not function without both a chassis and a compatible DAQ board.
What terminal block is needed to connect field signals?
The SCXI-1326 or TBX-1326 terminal block connects field wiring to the module. Neither is included with this listing.
What voltage range does this module accept, and can it handle higher AC voltages?
The SCXI-1162 accepts TTL, CMOS, and reference voltages from +5 V to +10 V. For sensing higher AC or DC voltages up to 240 VAC/VDC, the SCXI-1162HV variant is the correct module - the standard SCXI-1162 is not rated for high-voltage AC/DC sensing.
Is this the standard SCXI-1162 or the HV variant?
This is the standard SCXI-1162, confirmed by the molded faceplate marking 32-CHANNEL ISOLATED DIGITAL INPUT and part no. 182246E-01 on the label. It is not the SCXI-1162HV.
What software is required?
NI-DAQmx driver software is required. The module is compatible with LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio application development environments.
Government labs don't retire equipment because it stopped working - they retire it because the project ended. This SCXI-1162 kept signals clean and ground loops out of the picture through whatever came through those 32 channels, and it is ready to do exactly that again in your chassis.
