Product Overview

Thermoelectric Controller and Laser Diode Driver Pair with Dual Displays and BNC Monitors

Condition

Used, in good cosmetic condition. Powers on, all functions appear to be operational, both displays are clear, and the front-panel buttons respond; laser output was not checked because the rear interlock jack was not connected. Keys for the front-panel key switch are included; manuals are not. Labels legible: Seastar Optics Inc. Model TC-5100 S/N 43207, and Model LD-2310 S/N 40492.

Ships same or next business day from our Idaho warehouse. Selling online since 1999.

Product Overview

Seastar Optics of Sidney, B.C., Canada built this pair for running a laser diode on the bench. The TC-5100 drives a thermoelectric cooler to hold the diode at a set temperature, reading an AD590 or thermistor sensor chosen on the rear panel, and shows laser or PIN current beside the temperature. The LD-2310 Laser Diode Driver sits on top and connects to the TC-5100's driver interface by cable.

Key Features

  • TC-5100: current display selectable laser mA or PIN mA
  • TC-5100: temperature display selectable actual or set, in degrees C, with below, ready and above lamps
  • TC-5100: BNC monitor outputs for laser, PIN and actual temperature; BNC control input with external enable
  • TC-5100: P.B. adjust, set adjust knob and key switch on the front panel
  • TC-5100 rear: TEC output, driver interface, thermistor calibration, AD590/thermistor switch, interlock jack, IEC power inlet
  • Fuse rating on the rear label: 110 V 1 A, 220 V 0.5 A
  • LD-2310: enable/disable, current/power mode and short/normal laser switches, bias control and current limit
  • LD-2310: AC/DC coupling and high/low PIN gain switches, BNC and circular multi-pin connectors
  • LD-2310 caution label: the laser diode case must be electrically isolated from earth ground

Applications

  • Holding a laser diode at a fixed temperature so its wavelength stays put during a measurement
  • Running a diode in constant current or constant power mode using its monitor photodiode
  • Restoring an older Seastar Optics bench setup with a matching controller and driver

Frequently Asked Questions

Are manuals included?

Not included.

Which temperature sensors does it read?

An AD590 or a thermistor, selected with the switch on the rear panel.

What line voltage does it run on?

The rear label lists 110 V with a 1 amp fuse and 220 V with a 0.5 amp fuse.

What am I getting, and what am I taking on?

A pair that powers on with working displays and buttons, sold as shown. The laser output has not been exercised, and the interlock and the laser diode are yours to supply. Flat-rate shipping in the lower 48, and orders over the free-shipping line ship free.

A laser diode drifts in wavelength as it warms, which is why these two come as a set: one minds the current, the other minds the temperature. Bring your diode, close the interlock, and dial in the set point.
