Whatman Filter Paper, Membrane Filters and Laboratory Filtration Products
James Whatman the Elder founded the Whatman papermaking enterprise in Maidstone, Kent, England, in 1740. Whatman Grade 1 qualitative filter paper was used in 1944 by Consden, Gordon and Martin to develop paper chromatography. GE Healthcare acquired Whatman plc on February 4, 2008, and that business became Cytiva in April 2020.
Whatman makes laboratory filtration and separation products: filter papers, membrane filters and syringe filters, FTA sample collection cards, blotting membranes and papers, membranes for lateral flow assays, and accessories such as extraction thimbles, weighing papers and chromatography papers.
