Product Overview
A 68-pin NI data acquisition card needs a place to land its field wiring, and the SCB-68 gives it a shielded box of screw terminals. Inside are 68 screw terminals, one per pin of the 68-pin I/O connector, a cold-junction temperature sensor, an 800 mA fuse on the +5 V line from the DAQ device, and a general-purpose breadboard area for RC filters, attenuators, 4 to 20 mA sensing and open thermocouple detection.
Key Features
- 68 screw terminals, one for each pin of the 68-pin male I/O connector
- Cold-junction sensor output of 10 mV per degree C, accurate to plus or minus 1.0 degree C from 0 to 110 degrees C
- 800 mA fuse on the +5 V line from the DAQ device
- Five configuration switches, S1 to S5, for sensor and accessory power
- General-purpose breadboard area on the board
- Screw terminals take 30 AWG to 14 AWG wire, tightened to 0.5 to 0.6 N-m (4 to 5 in-lb), spaced 5.00 mm apart
- User-replaceable fuse, 800 mA, 250 VDC, fast blow, 5 x 20 mm
- Size: 18.1 x 15.2 x 4.5 cm (7.1 x 6.0 x 1.8 in); weight 828 g (1 lb 13 oz)
- No panel, wall or DIN rail mounting provisions
- Cover held by screws that complete the shield
- Board markings: SCB-68 COPYRIGHT 1993, ASSY 182470B-01, REV 2.1
Applications
- Landing thermocouples on a 68-pin multifunction DAQ card, with the onboard sensor handling cold-junction compensation
- Building an RC filter or a 4 to 20 mA sense resistor into the breadboard area ahead of the card
- Replacing a worn screw-terminal box on an existing NI test bench
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I read thermocouples through it without a separate reference?
Yes. The board carries a cold-junction temperature sensor with a 10 mV per degree C output. Switches S4 and S5 select its mode, and the factory setting leaves it off.
What wire sizes do the screw terminals take?
30 AWG to 14 AWG, tightened to 0.5 to 0.6 N-m.
Can I bring line voltage into it?
No. Keep every connection below 42 Vrms, and analog inputs are limited to plus or minus 10 V at the DAQ device.
Is this box sold used, with no function test?
Yes. It is clean and in good condition apart from cosmetic scratches and blemishes, and it has had visual inspection only. You get the box and the bag of two screws, and take on checking the fuse and terminals with your own card. Flat-rate shipping in the lower 48, and orders over the free-shipping line ship free.
A yellow label inside the opening asks for exactly one thing: put the cover screws back. Do that after the wiring is done, and the shield it promises stays whole.
