Product Overview

Tennelec TC 950 5KV Bias Supply, 0 to 5000V High Voltage for Radiation Detectors

Condition

Used and in excellent overall condition. It has been tested for function and accuracy: the output was verified as linear from 0 to 5000 volts, and the meter readings match the adjustment dial. It is set internally for positive output. Front panel markings legible: Tennelec, TC 950, 5KV Bias Supply, Output Polarity Neg and Pos, Disabled, Output Voltage 0 to 5000V, Dial Setting x 10, H.V. On, +24V/25mA +12V/150mA -12V/3mA.

Ships from our Idaho warehouse the same or next business day. We've been selling online since 1999.

Product Overview

Tennelec's TC 950 is a 5 kV detector bias supply built as a Nuclear Instrumentation Module (NIM). Output is set from 0 to 5000V on a counting dial read times ten, and a front meter scaled in kilovolts shows what is going out. Neg and Pos lamps show the polarity, a Disabled lamp lights when the rear Disable input shuts the output off, and an H.V. On toggle with its own lamp brings the voltage up. The rear carries two 5000V outputs and a separate 500V output.

Key Features

  • Output adjustable 0 to 5000V, counting dial marked Dial Setting x 10
  • Front meter scaled in kilovolts
  • Output Polarity lamps, Neg and Pos, currently set for positive
  • Disabled lamp and rear BNC Disable input
  • H.V. On toggle with indicator lamp
  • Rear outputs: two marked 5000V Output, one marked 500V Output
  • NIM power draw marked on the panel: +24V/25mA, +12V/150mA, -12V/3mA
  • Single-width NIM module, rear marked Made in USA

Applications

  • Biasing a germanium or silicon detector in a gamma or alpha spectroscopy chain
  • Running a lower voltage detector from the separate 500V output
  • Holding a known-good bias supply as a spare for a counting lab

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it set for positive or negative output?

Positive. It is set internally for positive operation, and the Neg and Pos lamps on the front show which polarity is active.

Has the output been checked?

Yes. The output was verified as linear from 0 to 5000 volts, and the meter agreed with the dial setting.

Are high voltage cables included?

Not included.

Which rear output should I use?

The two jacks marked 5000V Output carry the full 0 to 5000V range for germanium detectors and photomultiplier tubes. The jack marked 500V Output serves detectors that need lower bias. This unit was verified linear from 0 to 5000 volts. Flat-rate shipping in the lower 48, and orders over the free-shipping line ship free.

Two jacks on the back say 5000V and one says 500V, so the same module can feed a germanium crystal or a lower-voltage silicon detector. Set the dial, flip H.V. On, and choose your jack.
