Square D Circuit Breakers, Load Centers, Panelboards and Safety Switches
Square D was founded on December 15, 1902, by Bryson Dexter Horton and James B. McCarthy, and incorporated in 1903 as the McBride Manufacturing Company. Its logo, a capital D for Detroit inside a square, gave customers the name they used for its products, and the company renamed itself Square D in 1917. Schneider Electric acquired Square D in 1991.
Square D produces several lines of circuit breakers for domestic, commercial and industrial use, along with the QO and Homeline load centers, panelboards that mount arrays of breakers, and enclosed safety switches, a product it first offered in 1909. Breakers are built for a given line, Homeline breakers for Homeline load centers and QO breakers for QO systems, so a replacement is matched by the line name on the panel.
